The Westchester Aircraft Maintenance Association,
also known as WAMA, was founded in May 1958. Due to the increased complexity of aircraft
at the Westchester County Airport, a group of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians with the
backing of several corporations, organized the association. WAMA is a professional association
that advances the arts and sciences of aircraft maintenance, management, and ground support.
Its 700 members include aircraft maintenance technicians, supporting companies and others
whose work involves supporting the business, commercial and general aviation industry.
WAMA membership provides opportunities for ongoing learning and professional networking.
WAMA promotes the public welfare by educating members and industry about issues concerning
aircraft maintenance and management operations.
Our Mission
- Promote increased safety, efficiency and economy in aircraft maintenance work.
- Provide
for the exchange of information and member education through monthly meetings with
planned programs.
- Establish the need for and the collective experience necessary in
the development of new maintenance techniques.
- Promote the application of group effort
in the best interest of members, member corporations and member companies to matters
of mutual concern or interest.
- Collaborate with other general aviation organizations,
in the queries of governmental agencies pertaining to maintenance rules and guidelines.
- Conduct informative programs at monthly general membership meetings.
The Association
sponsors training for its members with topics focusing on aircraft maintenance and
management. Aviation is always in a state of change and the people involved must be
constantly advised of industry advancements.
WAMA also recognizes the need for a constant flow of information and knowledge and
therefore promotes and co-sponsors several technical programs throughout the year.
Aircraft, engine and component manufacturers, related aviation service and support
companies, as well as, regulatory organizations, present their new products or services
to the general membership. In addition to the above meetings, the Training Committee
organizes various technical programs throughout the year. Certain programs count as
credit toward FAA IA renewal or task specific certification.
