Dear WAMA members and aviation colleagues,
I want to start off by saying what a privilege it is to serve as President of WAMA. I am an A&P and IA that has been in the industry for 39 years. I joined WAMA in 1988 and have been a member since. I was asked to serve on the WAMA board of directors and have for more than 10 years. This is an exciting time for me to support the organization as it transitions into a new era of aviation.
Our traditional values and mission statement remain true as the foundation for this organization. However, we fully recognize the need to transform and adapt to the new generation of technicians and technology. With that in mind, we have many new opportunities to host training events on the aircraft and provide certificate classes for our members ranging from person growth to aviation management while continuing our technical training. We are expanding our social events and plan to hold more activities onsite at the airport.
I am happy to announce we have a new group of board members that are engaged and dedicated to enhancing the value for our membership. I encourage all of you to look on our web page to see our officers and board members. I also encourage you to become an active volunteer and consider serving on one of our chair committees or on the board.
Part of the change required us to update the organization’s by-laws. The major changes include term limits which will allow more opportunity for members to serve in officer positions. We want to encourage members to be active and influence our industry both in local venues and national platforms. We must advocate for maintence safety and industry excellence as we are stewards for aviation maintenance.
I believe as technicians in this honorable and respected career, we owe it to the industry and the younger generation entering our industry to provide mentorship. WAMA is the perfect platform to connect with old & new colleagues and other aviation organizations.
I invite you all to take the next step in your career. Embrace the opportunity to share your experience through collaborative efforts to improve our industry through mentorship and education.
I look forward to seeing you all out and about at our next event.
Regards,
George Kleros
President, Westchester Aircraft Maintenance Association.
